Sarah C asked:

Are Sony dSLRS good? The only reason I’m considering a Sony is because I can get it at 50% off.

the Sony A200, however the lenses for the Sony are not easy to come by and will cost you more in the long run. I’d look into getting a Canon XTi or Canon XT at this time…

Sony A300. 10.2 megapixel. Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body so every lens used will have that benefit. Live View that works with the auto focus. If you need to hold the camera over your head to get the picture (think parades, fences, etc.) flip the screen down, compose and shoot. Shooting at ground level> Flip the screen up, compose and shoot.

Every legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 can be used with your Sony DSLR. They are plentiful on eBay and can also be found at:

If you bought the 50mm f1.4 and the 35-70mm and 70-210mm zooms you’d have an excellent kit.

If you’d like to see the value of in-camera IS, go to and type ‘maxxum 5d’ in the Search box. Find the Feb. 2006 test report by Peter K. Burian. His test shots of the yacht at anchor, taken with a 36mm equivalent lens hand-held will show you why having any and every lens stabilized is worthwhile.
