Do yourself a favour, ignore the recommendations here. People recommend what they have themselves. google steves digicams this is an independant digital camera review site with a huge following. You will find massively comprehensive reviews on each of your short listed cameras together with sample photo's. this site has been running for many years and has had literally millions of hits. i have bought 3 digital cameras after comparing reviews on this site and have been totally 100% satisfied with each.

If you are taking pictures of friends and family, i would definitly recommend the Sony. With the face detection, the camera will focus on the most important parts of the photo, the people! Also, with smile detection setting on, if you point it at someone and they smile, it takes the picture instantly..... amazing. The T300 is very very stylish but personally, I would be leaned towards the DSC-W170, which for me is just a better camera, with wide angle lens, and still manages to retain the good looks. The most important thing when buying a camera is the lensand Carl Zeiss are the best in the business and thats what make Sony cameras the best option at the moment

I'd say Panasonic,

'Very Wide Angle Lens ' (25mm) which means you can photograph much more of a landscape, and groups of family and friends ..... Sony has a normal 33mm Lens

Lens Based Stablisation (OIS) , which means you can take 'Blur free' photos in Low-light conditions or at full zoom........Sony has a 'CCD Shift' which is not as good

Panasonic Records Hi-Def movies (1280 x 720) .......Sony does only VGA (640 x 480)

Panasonic also has the new 'Venus IV' image processing

More Internal Memory (50mb).......Sony (15mb)

Both are 10 MP

Both have 1/2.3" CCD Sensor

Both have good Lens ''Lecia PANASONIC.".......Carl Zeiss SONY'....... Lecia offers a slightly better image, less Lens Distortion' and 'Chromatic Abbreviation

SONY

Higher Zoom (165mm).........Panasonic (125mm)

Lighter (149g)....................... Panasonic (175g)

Bigger LCD (3.5")................Panasonic (3.0")
