Jessica asked:
Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W120 question.
I need to know how to get my pictures from the camera onto the computer. I have that cord thing that connects the camera to the computer, but the computer wont let me download the camera files or whatever to make it work. By the way this is the first time I’ve plugged it into the computer. Also, please don’t talk technically because I’m not a computer person. [:
the box the camera came in said it would work for my computer.

Not being sure exactly what you are trying and what you mean, I’ll give you a run-down of how most cameras work with computers.
You should have the camera, the cable to go between the camera and computer which normally goes into a USB port, the computer, and usually you have a CD.
The first step is to put the CD into your CD drive and wait for a screen to pop up to install your camera drivers and the software for transferring photos. Attaching your camera before doing this can sometimes result in a partial and faulty installation. The cure is to uninstall the camera and all related drivers and software and start again correctly. Not all cameras will need drivers or software installed.
After installing the software, you can then attach the camera via the cable and possibly the appropriate software will start up automatically. If not, you go to Start –> All Programs –> your camera software and start it manually.
Note that attaching the camera doesn’t always mean the computer will find it. If the camera is turned off, it may not be sending any signals to the computer.
Another way of transferring pictures to your computer once the camera drivers have been installed (if they are needed at all) is to browse to My Computer and look for an external disk drive that is new; it will probably have the same icon as a flash stick would when plugged into your computer. Browse the folders on that drive. Don’t forget to Safely Remove it when finished – you shouldn’t turn the camera off before doing that or the camera isn’t Safely Removed. (And don’t leave your camera attached to the computer and switched on – I have noticed that I end up with flat batteries because the camera doesn’t switch off.
You should have had two paper manuals and a CD come with your camera, according to what I am reading at Sony, although the manuals might be on the CD.
If you have an Instruction Manual then look at the “Enjoying your computer” section (pages 26-27 or close to there) for information about computer operating systems it will work with and how to view the manual. If you don’t have any manuals at all, put your CD in the drive and when the screen comes up, click the Cyber-Shot Handbook button. If you have a Mac, open the Handbook folder, then the GB folder and then copy the Handbook.pdf to your computer.
The section in the Handbook that you want probably starts on page 81. I have provided links for online copies of both of the manuals. The first one is the Instruction Manual and the second one is for the Handbook.
