The model is Silver Cyber-shot® W170 Digital Camera DSC-W170, and the memory is 15 MB. How long can you record or take pictures?

It depends upon the video mode you choose.

    choosing 640 x 480, 30 fps will record for a shorter time than if you choose 320 x 240, 30 fps

The actual length of time the memory will record is listed on a chart in the owners manual.

At maximum resolution, it should hold about 4 or 5 still images … when you spend the money for a good 10MP camera, using any resolution lower than its maximum, would be a shame.

The W170 is a 10MP camera with a useless 15MB of internal memory.
Forget the internal memory. It will only allow 3 high quality images.
You will need to buy a Memory Stick PRO Duo if you want to be able to shoot a good amount of images/movies. Each 1GB will allow approx. 246 high quality images or 12 1/2 minutes of VX Fine movies.
2GB would be a good minimum capacity.
