I’m trying to decide which of these two cameras to buy. I want a camera that takes really good action shots and clear pictures, as well as one that has nice features. Which do you recommend?

1. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W120/P 7.2 Megapixel Digital Camera

2. Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd 10-Megapixel Digital Camera

The most important difference between them is image stabilization. The Cybershot has it. The FinePix doesn’t. I’ve never owned a Sony or a Fuji camera, or a camera with IS, but a lot of people swear by it. In all other respects they’re very similar, in fact the differences are probably too small to notice unless you buy both cameras and go around taking identical pictures with each, which is of course a very silly thing to do.

The Cybershot zooms in a little wider and out a little further, and the lens is better for stopping action until the telephoto range, where the FinePix takes the lead. It has a viewfinder, which the FinePix doesn’t. If you’re taking a series of continuous shots, during action photography, for instance, the Cybershot can shoot 1.5fps for up to 100 pictures. The FinePix ambles along at 1.0fps for only three pictures. The FinePix takes more common memory types. It also has a longer minimum shutter (4 seconds vs. 1 second) for extreme low-light work on a tripod. The Cybershot weighs a little more, but the dimensions are practically identical.

Only you can decide which features are important and which ones aren’t. They’re similar enough that I doubt buying either one would be a mistake.
