These are cameras are around 200 dollars, just a little more but I was buying another camera, I would chose one of these.

They have great zoom, the first one has 10x optical zoom and that is the one that counts. Digital zoom is very overrated and you should focus on optical zoom. The other has 6x optical zoom and is smaller.

Canon has image stabilization and face detection which is nice because it can recognize many faces in the shot the help with clear pictures. I have had two Canon cameras and I absolutely LOVE them. I scrapbook so taking pictures is a huge deal to me. This is a great price for a camera with the much zoom and 10x zoom is great for kids in sports or on vacation.

I would avoid HP, there cameras have some issues. Sony makes a great camera but they are the only brand that used the memory stick pro which is much more expensive and is not compatible with other brands of cameras. Sd/MMC cards are the most widely used cards on the market. Both use AA batteries which means you don't have to take the charger with you and you can buy Lithium batteries anywhere if you need them and you don't have to wait for the battery to charge.
